question of the weekend: Did you ever do something so stupid/crazy/memorable that you will never live it down among your friends and/or family? If you’re in the U.S., you may have just experienced a few days of family togetherness, for Thanksgiving; wherever you are, chances are good that December -- with its Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s holidays -- will be bring many opportunities for family get-togethers, and other opportunities to reunite with old friends. Some of us may rue such opportunities, with the potential they bring for reminders of things we’ve done in the past that we’d rather forget. With this as the backdrop, this weekend’s question comes from Isobel, who writes: After being reminded by my Grandmother this morning (and the fact that family-gathering time is getting closer), for the 6,000,001st time, about how I buried the key to the grandfather clock in the garden when I was four I thought 'things we will never live down' might be a good question of the day? As there's also the time when I got chewing gum so badly stuck in my hair (aged about five) the day before my Uncle's wedding that it had to be cut to about an inch, like a boy, and I (as flower-girl) look terrible in all the wedding photos. My friends will never let me live the corset explosion incident down, either. . . So: Did you ever do something so stupid/crazy/memorable that you will never live it down among your friends and/or family? When I was very little -- like, so little I was still sitting in a high chair when this happened -- I peeled my finger with a vegetable peeler, apparently just to see what would happen. I’m told I didn’t start to scream until my mother and grandmother started screaming. I don’t remember this at all, and I have no physical scars from the event. But this does come up once in a while when the family gets together. You...? (If you have a suggestion for a QOTD/QOTW, feel free to email me.
