first working day of the new year...

...the very first day, and the site crashes for 12 hours. Not the best way to start what I’d hoped would be a better year than the one that just ended.

You may have tried to get here yesterday between around 3pm Eastern time and around 3am Eastern time this morning, only to find that you got weird error messages, or perhaps the site loaded a little bit, very slowly, and then just stopped. My Web host was experiencing hardware failures, or so they’ve explained so far.

Things should be back to normal now, and, in fact, even faster than they were before (the host says the new equipment is much better than the old stuff, and the site does seem to load faster for me). Let me know if you encounter any problems.

Hopefully, this incident will not be a harbinger for the year to come...
