trailer break: ‘Sucker Punch’

Hey, it’s a newfangled chicks-in-prison exploitation flick! We haven’t had one of those in a while. Hoorah for Zack Snyder reviving a genre we thought had died with the rise of feminism. It’s kinda cool how he shows us that there’s nothing than a gal can do or that can be done to a gal that cannot be fetishized. And how he hijacks a female wish-fulfillment fantasy so that the guys all get their eye candy. Or else these are very silly girls indeed, imagining themselves going to war with bare midriffs.

Sucker Punch opens in the U.S. and Canada on March 25, and in the U.K. on April 1.
