why do U.K. moviegoers care what’s on the top of the U.S. box office?

I don’t think they do, actually. But someone thinks they do:

US NO.1
BOX OFFICE SMASH!

reads the Limitless ad on the Vue cinema marquee in Leicester Square in Central London.

Does this make U.K.ians want to see a movie more than they otherwise would? If America jumped off a bridge, would Britain do it too?

I guess we’ll soon see this marquee updated for Hop: “NO.1 BUNNY SMASH!” No, wait, that doesn’t sound right...
