‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Steven Moffat rec.arts.drwho posts from 1995-6 shows he’s been thinking about “A Good Man Goes to War” for a long timeAs noted by Les Carr, who pointed this out in comments following my blogging on “A Good Man Goes to War”: In January 1995, Steven Moffat posted this to rec.arts.drwho: Here's a particularly stupid theory. If we take "The Doctor" to be the Doctor's name - even if it is in the form of a title no doubt meaning something deep and Gallifreyan - perhaps our earthly use of the word "doctor" meaning healer or wise man is direct result of the Doctor's multiple interventions in our history as a healer and wise man. In other words, we got it from him. This is a very silly idea and I'm consequently rather proud of it. Whoa. And then, as innpchan notes in the next comment, there’s this Moffat post to the same discussion group, dated April 1996: Why all this fuss about canon - and, indeed, continuity - in a show about a man who changes history for a living? We can’t trust this guy. (I’ve been thinking about Doctor Who for a long time, too, but no one’s paying me the big bucks (yet) to incorporate those thoughts into episodes. Another reason for me to hateses the Moffat.) (If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.) share
