question of the day: How could Green Lantern more imaginatively -- and effectively! -- use his powers?

Reason No. 1,643 to hate Green Lantern: Hal Jordan is so unimaginative with his superpower! Hal supposedly has the ability to make real anything he can imagine, but the best he can come up with when sparring with other Lanterns or fighting bad guys is conjuring glowing green guns or swords or shields. The Hot Wheels ramp he creates to deal with the crashing helicopter is slightly more inventive, but it still seems indicative of a very limited mind's eye.

Could not Hal have stopped that alien monster that feeds on fear by, I dunno, creating baskets of puppies to calm everyone down? Could Hal not have sapped the fearmongering power of the monster by casting a happy rainbow?

I’m only half facetious. For a superhero with a different sort of power than the usual superstrength, Jordan is a depressingly ordinary sort of superhero after all. Maybe the comic features Hal being more creative with his powers; maybe it doesn’t. Whichever is the case, Hollywood couldn’t be bothered to do anything original with the character. So let’s fix that:

How could Green Lantern more imaginatively -- and effectively! -- use his powers?
