the future of FlickFilosopher.com: next week, next month, next yearAs I’m sure you’ve noticed, things have been pretty slow around for the past month or so. Some of that is because I’ve been doing a bit of reorganization on the back end, which is still not even half done and is only just starting to manifest itself in the form of the new Reviews homepage and the new Doctor Who homepage; it will all make more sense once it’s done. Most of it is because I’ve had visitors from NYC -- first my brother Ken, then my best friend Bonnie (aka bronxbee) -- and I’ve been spending most of my time with them. There are some aspects of my living situation at the moment in London that are not ideal, but they’re mostly cope-able when everything else is running normally: throw in disruptions such as visits from the people I miss most from New York, and everything falls apart. But things should start to get back to normal next week. I’ve got a ton of reviews to catch up on, for one thing. And that reorg to finish. Beyond that, though, a sort of moment of truth has arrived. The Web is changing; journalism is changing. Can FlickFilosopher.com survive? I really don’t know at this point. Everywhere else this site can grow is now beyond my technical capabilities. I’ve been doing everything round here (with the one exception of some help from Julian Porter in setting up the forum). But now, all my ideas for where the site could go, for where it has to go to endure in this environment -- social networking, games, more intense community -- are not things I could ever possibly handle myself. Things cannot continue simply as they are, either, however. I’ll get more into this next week. For now, I just wanted to let you know that I haven’t disappeared entirely.
