question of the day: What is the greatest opening for a movie ever?Entertainment Weekly has just posted its picks for “30 Classic Opening Movie Scenes” -- and a few of them would rank among my favorite opening scenes ever: Up’s story of Ellie; Contact’s journey through the universe; The Lion King’s “The Circle of Life” (which I wrote about recently in another QOTD context), and perhaps the opening I think may be the greatest ever: Raiders of the Lost Ark’s introduction to Indiana Jones. What is the greatest opening for a movie ever? I leave it to you to decide whether “opening” means shot, scene, snippet of dialogue, or whatever: it depends on the individual movie, doesn’t it? And if you’re greatest opener isn’t also your favorite, feel free to share that, too. (If you have a suggestion for a QOTD, feel free to email me. Responses to this QOTD sent by email will be ignored; please post your responses here.) Disqus commentsblog comments powered by Disqus |
