question of the day: What would your dream movie/TV smartphone app do?

Back in December 2009, I asked what your favorite movie-related smartphone apps were. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably found that as awesome as the IMDB app and the Flixster app are, there’s still something missing. Something so vague and indefinable that it’s hard to put a finger on it. Yet missing it is.

Yes, it’s great to have the entire history of movies at your fingertips. It’s great to be able to buy multiplex tickets while you’re waiting for a table at a restaurant. But movies -- and TV, and books -- are a way of life for me, and I suspect for you too, if you read sites like this one. I don’t mean that you spend a lot of time watching or reading (though you probably do) but that you think about these things a lot, and in ways that the average person doesn’t, and that you relate the stories you love to your own meatbag life.

No app that I’m aware of has plugged into that in any meaningful way.

I have a few nebulous ideas for such apps taking shape in my head, but I’m not sure if they’d even work, in a programming sense, or if they’d be useful or interesting to people. But such considerations aside -- who cares if the technology is there?!...

What would your dream movie/TV smartphone app do?

Or maybe you don’t need or want anything other than what we’ve already got.
