watch it: “Armadyne: Taking Mankind Into The Future” (viral for Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’)

After District 9, I will follow Neill Blomkamp anywhere. It looks like anywhere is to a film called Elysium, currently scheduled for release in 2013. (It hasn’t started shooting yet, but between Blomkamp and the announced cast -- Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, Sharlto Copley, and Diego Luna -- I’m getting psyched already.)

Alex Billington at FirstShowing.net has some images of fake Armadyne ads spotted around San Diego Comic Con, and some spot-on commentary on the video:

The video is fairly generic, but mentions interesting jobs like "zero g welders, mega-structure engineers, quantum networkers", as well as experts in "zero g coupling and multi-generational planning." Based on all that we know, this sounds like it's a massive spaceship construction company, looking to build a ship that will transport an entire colony of people, hence "multi-generational planning", to another planet, which connects with early rumors about the Elysium setting being on another planet. I like where this is headed.

I like where this is headed, too.

Keep an eye on Armadyne.net for more geeky coolness.
