Doctor Who thing of the day: the Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River sorted into Hogwarts houses

How would the Sorting Hat deal with Doctor No. Eleven, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, and River Song? So glad you asked!

Doctor Who at Hogwarts

Amy: You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart

Rory: You might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal

Doctor: Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind

River: Or perhaps in Slytherin you’ll make your real friends, those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends.

(From fuck yeah, team eleven on tumblr, “for all your Amy/Eleven/River/Rory/TARDIS/etc multi-shipping needs.”)

I love this because it demonstrates the universality that unites well-written fictional tales: that characters can be archetypes without being stereotypes, that certain structures unite popular stories in the arrangements of their characters, and that you don’t have to scratch too far below the surface to find the similarities.

Here’s some fun to chew on: In which Hogwarts houses would other Doctors and other companions end up?

(Thanks to Megan for the heads-up. If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)
