question of the day: What’s the next “interactive” gimmick Hollywood will come up with... or revive from the past?
Today’s question comes from reader Overflight, who says in comments following my review of Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D: SCRATCH AND SNIFF? REALLY? Is Hollywood that desperate that they're actually bringing back 40 year old stupid gimmicks to get people in the theaters? What else are they going to dig up? The swiveling simulator seats? Sensurround? Multiple endings a la Clue? Or will they come up with something cheaper yet even more stupid? So there you go: What’s the next “interactive” gimmick Hollywood will come up with... or revive from the past? I believe there is enormous untapped potential for using the Web to expand on a movie’s story through various interactive means that go well beyond the game tie-ins we sometimes see. But that would demand a lot of additional creative heavy lifting, not to mention deeper storytelling... and as we’ve just gotten confirmation of, Hollywood isn’t interested in storytelling.
