question of the day: Is there any good reason for Warner Bros. to pull the Harry Potter DVDs from stores?

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter

When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 arrives on DVD (on November 11th in Region 1 and December 2 in Region 2), it will be the beginning of the end for the boy wizard on DVD. TheWrap reports:

The studio announced that it will pull all Harry Potter DVDs and Blu-rays from store shelves on Dec. 29, 2011.

Move follows the Nov. 11 home entertainment release of the final film in the franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2," which should send disc sales into the stratosphere. The studio is also releasing a box-set of all eight Potter films on that date.

Of course, as TheWrap notes, Disney has been doing the same thing for years with its “Vault,” occassionally rereleasing new versions of its classic movies for sale for a short time before locking them back up again.

Is this fair to fans? Does this benefit fans? Is there any good reason for Warner Bros. to pull the Harry Potter DVDs from stores? Or is it just a way to force any fencesitters to spend who might not otherwise bother to buy the DVDs right now?
