So there’s this, then: a flick starring Nicolas Cage and January Jones and Guy Pearce, directed by Roger Donaldson, and it’s a revenge story, which is all the rage these days, and it doesn’t have a North American release date yet. But it’s opening here in the U.K. in a couple of weeks.

Weird.

I mean, it even looks like it might have something new to say in the vigilante-action genre. It looks like it might even be somewhat critical of vigilantism.

Huh. Maybe that’s why it can’t get released in the U.S. Judging by the success of that subgenre lately, perhaps Americans don’t want to hear an anti-vigilante message. Or the studio fears, at least, that they don’t want to hear that sort of message.

Or else the movie just sucks and will end up going straight to DVD.
