question of the day: What great historical figures would you like to see in a story set in the present day?

I saw a tweet the other day -- I’ve lost it now, alas -- that mentioned a photo from the set of a new movie about Abraham Lincoln, a photo in which Lincoln is wearing jeans and a sweater. I thought: How cool! What a fantastic idea! How would Lincoln react to 21st-century America? (And just yesterday I was lamenting the lack of science fiction that is about ideas.)

It turns out I was wrong about what this movie is about. Oh, the photo is fun:

Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln

But it turns out that it does not represent what we’ll see in the film: it’s just actor Daniel Day-Lewis taking a lunch break on the Virginia set of Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg.

(Photo via Movies.com, which presumably added the photo of the actual Lincoln for comparison.)

But now I’m wildly intrigued by the idea of Abraham Lincoln in the 21st century. I’ve also long thought about a story in which George Washington visits modern-day New York City, though I never got much beyond the coolness of the notion itself: certainly, there’d have to be a scene set on the George Washington Bridge.

What great historical figures would you like to see in a story set in the present day?

Have fun!
