question of the day: What do you wish awards winners would say in their acceptance speeches?

Peter Dinklage Golden Globe

So at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, Peter Dinklage -- who won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, for Game of Thrones -- used the opportunity of his acceptance speech to bring attention to a crime committed against a British man who is a dwarf. From BBC News:

A man from Somerset has expressed surprise after being mentioned during an acceptance speech by US actor Peter Dinklage at the Golden Globe awards.

During the acceptance speech, Mr Dinklage paid tribute to Martin Henderson by asking people to google him.

The 37-year-old, from Milborne Port, had been injured in a "dwarf-throwing" attack in Wincanton in October.

...

The 37-year-old has been left with serious back injuries since the attack and will need a specially-made wheelchair for longer journeys.

"I keep getting numbness in my left leg and I just keep falling over and I have broken my left wrist," Mr Henderson said.

Mr Henderson, who is 4ft 6in (1.3m) tall, was dropped from a height of about three feet (1m) by an unknown attacker who was about 5ft 8in (1.7m) tall.

Worse? This poor Henderson guy was celebrating his birthday at a pub and had just stepped outside for a cigarette when he was attacked (via the Mirror).

Of course, the podiums at the Oscars and other awards ceremonies are often taken advantage of as a global soapbox to let winners expound -- how briefly -- on their pet social or political causes of the moment. I don’t see that there’s anything wrong with that. But is that all that such a moment in the spotlight could be used for?

What do you wish awards winners would say in their acceptance speeches?

Beyond the usual thank-yous, that is...
