question of the day: Who was the most kickass female action film character of 2011?

Arthur Christmas

Last week I posted a link to the year-end awards nominations of one of my critics’ groups, the Alliance of Women Film Journalists. The AWFJ’s awards are distinctive for some of our unique categories, including this one (with our nominees for 2011):

Kick Ass Award For Best Female Action Star

• Rooney Mara - Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
• Helen Mirren - Rachel Singer in The Debt
• Paula Patton - Jane in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
• Saoirse Ronan - Hanna in Hanna
• Zoe Saldana - Cataleya in Colombiana

My own nominees were, in fact:

• Ashley Jensen (voice) - Bryony in Arthur Christmas
• Melissa George - Alison in A Lonely Place to Die
• Pollyanna McIntosh - The Woman in The Woman

I love love love that Bryony is so supremely confident, and lacks all doubt that her’s is the most important job in the world, and that to fail at it is not an option. At all.

The AWFJ winners will be announced January 10. In the meantime:

Who do you think was the most kickass female action film character of 2011? And why?

Ooo, this should be fun...

(If you have a suggestion for a QOTD, feel free to email me. Responses to this QOTD sent by email will be ignored; please post your responses here.)
