watch it: “The Hobbit Production Video #5”

Watching a video like this in no way diminishes my enjoyment of a film. In some ways, it enhances it, because it makes me appreciate all the more the effort that goes into creating a seamlessly authentic cinematic experience. One of the beautiful things about The Lord of the Rings is how real it feels and looks, and how lacking in artifice it is. Here we see all the artifice that goes into it. That something so genuine can come out on the other end is amazing.

Aw, Elijah Wood back in Hobbiton, talking about being 19 when he first stepped into the village, and now he’s 30. My god, it’s been that long, hasn’t it?
