Doctor Who thing of the day: meet the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra

A few readers have written to me about the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra, headed up by Stephen Willis, and it’s about time I highlighted their particularly kind of fannish love. This is “Rose’s Theme/Doomsday”:

Reader David proudly notes that his wife, Heather, is the first soloist on that piece.

DWFO member Juliane says:

We play as an international orchestra and it works pretty well, also is a lot of fun and you learn a lot about playing your instrument/singing and meet other persons :)

She points us toward the DWFO’s site, which features more information about the group (a new project starts this month) and links to other completed pieces. Here’s their latest, “A Christmas Carol (Suite)”:

What a wonderful way for fans to share their love of the show... and it’s something that wouldn’t have been possible before the Internet, and not even before the Internet of just the past few years, when high-speed broadband became widely available.

See also here for more details on the players and links for downloading the music track.

Also thanks to John and DWFO member Megan for their heads-up.

(If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)
