I want to say that I enjoyed your Ever After review and agree with it wholeheartedly. I enjoyed this movie so much that I did something I've never done before -- created a very professional and detailed fan site (at www.newtekniques.com/everafter). It is updated daily with careful consideration given to layout, design, update frequency, reader interaction, etc. It's turned into quite the project, but well worth it.
My best to you!

You were far too kind in your Avengers review. You said "appalling" and that's accurate. You said "possibly the worst movie Hollywood has ever produced" and I do agree.
I thought it was absolutely atrocious and I didn't walk out because sometimes something does happen in a bad movie that partially redeems it. But that did not occur here.
Oh, there was one bit I liked -- the elderly woman agent. She was a bit of all right, the essential eccentric British character, I thought. (I didn't stay for the credits -- I couldn't get out of the theater fast enough -- so I don't know who the actress is.) But I found absolutely nothing else to like.
I do fondly remember Patrick MacNee and Diana Rigg in The Avengers. If you ever have an opportunity to view some of those TV shows do so, and you'll understand better my bitter disappointment. They had charm, verve, charisma, you name it, no matter how ridiculous or unrealistic the plots. And that was part of the fun too.
Thank goodness I only paid the matinee price ($4.75)!

The Flick Filosopher responds:
Lucky you -- I paid $10.50! ($9 for the ticket and $1.50 service charge to MovieFone). It doesn't make that yucky Avengers aftertaste any better.

I raise my voice -- like Cassandra on the walls of Troy -- in a desperate wailing cry to protest The Avengers... that travesty... that has its nerve to call itself a movie -- never mind a movie about two of the most delightful characters to inhabit that vast wasteland called television. Sitting through it was a descent into hell... A punishment that should be inflicted on our worst criminals (think A Clockwork Orange). The original series was witty, charming, and sexy. It had its tongue planted firmly in its oh so British cheek and was evidenced by smart and funny writing and a cast that could really act on television without embarrassment. As to sexual tension, Patrick MacNee and Diana Rigg had it in spades -- there is nothing so sexy as the cerebral affair of passion that never quite breaks out into physical expression. A lot of American television shows could learn that lesson (i.e. Moonlighting , just to name the first example that pops into my head). As to that... THING... that invaded the movies: People! Listen to my words! Buy the available videos... invest in cable... use your imagination! But DON'T see The Avengers!
