ON THIS DAY: In 1840, French novelist and social activist Emile Zola was born in France. Zola is best remembered for intervening in the case of a military officer falsely accused of espionage, which is perhaps why his biopic, 1937's THE LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA, starring Paul Muni as the writer, focuses on the case of Captain Alfred Dreyfus. |
