ON THIS DAY: In 1916, Ireland's "Easter Uprising" took place as Irish nationalists seized government buildings in Dublin, including the General Post Office. Liam Neeson portrays one of the revolutionaries who participated in the '16 rebellion in 1996's MICHAEL COLLINS. Neil Jordan's film -- which also stars Aidan Quinn, Alan Rickman, and Stephen Rea -- was controversial for, among other things, repositioning Collins as a patriot instead of a terrorist. |
