ON THIS DAY: In 1988, Pan Am flight 103 was destroyed over Lockerbie, Scotland, when a terrorist-planted bomb in the luggage compartment exploded -- 259 people on the plane and 11 on the ground were killed. The 1990 TV movie TRAGEDY OF FLIGHT 103: THE INSIDE STORY revealed that government and the airline had known that the flight was a potential terrorist target and did nothing to alert passengers.
