TODAY IS: 42 years since The Day the Music Died, or so Don McLean immortalized it in his song "American Pie." On this day in 1959, pop stars Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens were killed in a plane crash in Iowa. In 1978, Gary Busey starred in the biopic THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY -- even performing Holly's songs himself -- further ensuring that the legend of the rock idol, who was only 22 when he died, would endure. |
