TODAY IS: Susan B. Anthony Day, honoring the women's rights advocate on the anniversary of her birth, in 1820. Though primarily known for her work fighting for women's suffrage, Anthony was also an early active supporter of the anti-slavery movement. She was undoubtedly influenced by news of the 1839 revolt aboard a slave ship off the New England coast, depicted in Steven Spielberg's 1997 film AMISTAD, in which kidnapped African tribesmen, lead by the fabulous Djimon Hounsou, find themselves fighting a courtroom battle for their freedom.
