Oh, my lovely droogs, TODAY IS: the 84th anniversary of the birth of British author Anthony Burgess (he died in 1993). Burgess' best-known work is a real horrowshow novel about self-determination and the price society pays for individual freedom, and Stanley Kubrick's 1971 filmed adaptation of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, while generally acknowledged as one of the greatest films ever made, is so horrifically violent that Kubrick himself imposed a ban on screening it in Britain, a ban that has only been raised since the director's death. "Singin' in the Rain" will be ruined for you forever after Malcolm McDowell's rendition of it here. |
