ON THIS DAY: In 1979, Cambodian despot Pol Pot was overthrown by Cambodian rebels fighting alongside Vietnamese soldiers. Commemorate the date with 1984's THE KILLING FIELDS, the multi-award-winning drama about the friendship between a New York Times reporter and a Cambodian interpreter, and their separation during the Khmer Rouge crackdown on Cambodians who worked with Western journalists before the fall of Saigon. |
