ON THIS DAY: In 1916, a group of pro golfers led by Walter Hagen formed the Professional Golfers Association of America -- the PGA (the first PGA Championship was played a few months later, in April 1916). One of my favorite sports movies is 1996's TIN CUP, starring Kevin Costner as a washed-up golf pro and Renee Russo as the sports psychologist who helps him get his swing back, much to the annoyance of Russo's not- washed- up pro-golfer boyfriend, played by Don Johnson. Romance and comedy ensue. |
