ON THIS DAY: In 1938, insurance salesman Walter Neff related a sordid tale of murder and insurance fraud to claims investigator Barton Keyes... at least in the alternate universe depicted in 1944's DOUBLE INDEMNITY, which some movie fans consider to be the ultimate noir film. Coincidentally, it is also the anniversary of the birth of Barbara Stanwyck, born on this day in 1907, who played the hot femme fatale who lured Fred MacMurray's Neff to his glorious doom.
