ON THIS DAY: In 1935, the first modern paperback book was published by Penquin, in London (the book was ARIEL, a life of Shelley, by Andre Maurois). Movies about writers are many and varied, but one that captures the cheesy fun that paperbacks offer is 1984's ROMANCING THE STONE, in which Kathleen Turner plays a writer of romance novels who gets to live the kind of adventure she fantasies about. |
