ON THIS DAY: In 1929, Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. The diary she kept through her family's years of hiding in Amsterdam during World War II -- they were Jewish in German-occupied Holland -- has received several screen adaptations, the best known being 1959's THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, starring Millie Perkins as the perceptive and surprisingly wise teenaged girl. |
