ON THIS DAY: In 1969, the patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village, rioted after a police raid, sparking the gay-rights movement. (June is also Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, in commemoration of the Stonewall riot.) The 1995 film STONEWALL is a fictionalized account of the riot, one of the very few movies to feature the historic moment. |
