ON THIS DAY: In 1951, the television program MR. WIZARD premiered, on which Don Herbert performed science experiments for the amusement and edification of impressionable youngsters. Ya gotta believe that a young John Hughes was among that early audience, and may have actually found there the germ of the inspiration for his 1985 teen flick WEIRD SCIENCE. Anthony Michael Hall and his geeky pal program their computer to create the ultimate sexpot: Kelly Le Brock. And comedy ensues. Mr. Wizard is spinning is his grave in the TV boneyard. |
