TODAY IS: Freedom of Information Day, sponsored by the American Library Association to promote public awareness of the right to government information created at taxpayer expense (see ala.org for more info). The Freedom of Information Act is one frequently used by conspiracy theorists to unravel supposedly covered-up documentation, though paranoiacs have apparently yet to demand to see the encyclopedic dossiers that reside in the basement of the FBI's Washington, DC, HQ in 1998's THE X-FILES. FBI agent Fox Mulder's firsthand accounts of alien abductions, weird creatures, and international intrigue would keep them busy for years.
