ON THIS DAY: In 1971, "D.B. Cooper," likely a pseudonym, hijacked a Northwest Airlines 727, demanding $200,000 from the airline, which he received on a refueling stop in Seattle -- when the plane took off again, he parachuted out of it into the Washington wilderness, and was never seen again. (Some of the marked ransom money turned up in 1980 near Vancouver, Washington.) Treat Williams portrays Cooper in the 1981 film THE PURSUIT OF D.B. COOPER, which speculates on Cooper's ultimate fate. |
