ON THIS DAY: In 1942, the film CASABLANCA premiered in New York City on what was Thanksgiving Day that year -- originally scheduled to be released the following June, the November 8 landing of the Allies in North Africa prompted the change in release date. CASABLANCA, of course, is the tale of a crotchety ex-pat American, played by Humphrey Bogart, in occupied French North Africa, and how he assists the resistance against the Nazis. |
