ON THIS DAY: In 1890, Julius Henry Marx was born in New York City. Better known as "Groucho," he and his siblings stormed Broadway and then Hollywood in the late 1920s and into the 30s as the comic Marx Brothers. (Grouch died in 1977 in Los Angeles.) One of their funniest and most beloved movies is 1935's A NIGHT AT THE OPERA -- its "stateroom" scene is a masterpiece of physical and wordplay comedy.
