ON THIS DAY: In 1833, the first "penny paper" was sold by newspaper boys on the streets of New York. The SUN, which focused on sensational stories, was the first successful penny newspaper in the United States. Yellow journalism made the publications of newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane a tremendous success decades later, as told in the 1941 "biopic" CITIZEN KANE. |
