ON THIS DAY: In 1847, Jesse James was born in Missouri. The exploits of the notorious bank, train, store, and stagecoach robber were immortalized in cheap novels for readers in the East, desperate for tales of adventure in the Wild West. Cult movie fanatics desperate for tales of the weird got JESSE JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER in 1966, which is probably about as accurate a depiction of the outlaw as that of any dime novel.
