TODAY IS: Neither Snow Nor Rain Day, commemorating the 1914 opening of the spectacular New York Post Office Building on Eighth Avenue and 32nd Street. (The building bears the famous inscription "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.") If only something could stay filmmakers from films like the aptly titled DEAR GOD, from 1996, in which con man Greg Kinnear goes to work in a post office reading dead-letter mail to the likes of Elvis and God, and gets mistaken for a messenger of the Almighty. |
