5 reasons I’m psyched for ‘The Spirit’

All this weekend! 5 movies I’m psyched for in December and 5 reasons why. No. 5: The Spirit [opens in the U.S. on December 25, and in the U.K. on January 1, 2009].
1. Gabriel Macht. He is so cute. Plus, after years of solid yeoman’s work in such flicks as American Outlaws and The Recruit and The Good Shepherd, he’s due his moment in the spotlight. He at least deserves this chance at a franchise. Also: the red tie is fantabulous.

2. Frank Miller. I know, I know: I’m a girl, and so I’m not supposed to like shit like 300 and Sin City. But I do. Deal with it.

3. Will Eisner. The man literally wrote the book on comics.

4. Samuel L. Jackson. He’s basically the coolest, baddest dude ever. And he’s so nice!

5. Nothing says “holiday cheer” like mean streets, an undead vigilante who snarls out greetings including “I’m gonna kill you all kinds of dead,” and a URL such as “MyCityScreams.com.” Merry fuckin’ multiplex Christmas!

My favorite thing about Sam Jackson is that no matter how many shitty flicks he’s in, his Aura of Cool is never diminished.

Did you ever see “The Long Kiss Goodnight”? That movie is awesome.

The best part of ‘The Punisher: War Zone’ was by far the ‘The Spirit’ trailer.

I just hope that Miller has a light enough touch for The Spirit. The comic was a marvelous and literate blend of drama, wit, and humor, told with a very light touch. It’s not The Dark Knight or Sin City.

I’m both looking forward to the film and a bit worried.

I’m expecting 100% awesomeness from this film.
Nothing less.

Oh, Newbs, I love The Long Kiss Goodnight. Just because it’s popular to knock a film doesn’t mean you should.

I think you misunderstood, blake; perhaps my lack of an obvious transition was confusing. Those were two separate thoughts: The shitty movies I meant mostly began with the words “Star Wars”.

Long Kiss Goodnight I said was “awesome” which is pretty much the complete opposite of “shitty”, at least in my dictionary. So, you know, relax a little.

And hey, despite the admonishment, I’ll knock any film I want, which leads me back to the titular Spirit.

I have a feeling The Spirit is gonna head toward the “shitty” bit of this particular spectrum. Some of these early reviews are scary. I hope your hearts aren’t broken… this one is looking bad. That trailer in front of the Punisher made it look like Poor Man’s Sin City, like if a guy who only draws comics decided to make one into a movie… oh, wait. I’m not even sure I’ll be able to go see it until I hear some positive thoughts from somebody.

Fingers crossed! Judgment reserved! MaryAnn, I await your review.

My Problem with this is, … The what the who? The Spirit? What is he like some old pulp hero? I feel he gets way to much credit, this Will Eisner guy, who every one praises for writing the way of comics, but I say no way, Comics would be nothing if it wasn’t for Stan Lee. It should be the Stan Lee award.

So my reasons for seeing this is in no way in terms of conceit.
The reasons would be in direct relations in that I digged Sin City and I got the hots for Scarlett.
and the fact that whatever Samuel L. Jackson does hes a BMF.

“…made it look like Poor Man’s Sin City,” – Newbs

I think that’s fair. I didn’t get the impression that we’ll see the same kind of depth in the characters and story as we saw in Sin City. But wtf do I know? I’ve only seen one trailer. Didn’t I see Sam Jackson wearing some kind of badass mutton chops? We need this in these trying times.

Yes, it always comes back to Sam Jackson. I’ll watch him do anything.

Sam Jackson Cooks from the Betty Crocker Book? Count me in!
Sam Jackon’s Antique Roadshow? Yesssssss.
Meet the Press with Sam Jackson? Holy shit TIVO season pass that motherfucker.

I think you see what I’m saying.

It says bad motherfucker on Sarah Paulson’s wallet, too. She has some serious talent. I hope it’s put to good use here.

I got a theory on the whole ” Long Kiss goodnight” thing now when that came out everything wasn’t all BMFer this BMFer that, people were still doing the Royale with cheese joke, but That movie was attempt to make put some fire in Genna Davis’s image ,
it can be seen as a dumb bad movie or a early wise cracking Sam Jackson , tough bitch with gun action B movie
