trailer break: ‘The Social Network’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

Wow: David Fincher directed this. I woudn’t have expected that… and I wouldn’t have expected a David Fincher movie about the Internet to look quite like this. I’m even more intrigued than I already was.

Weird to think that it was as recently as 2003 that Facebook was invented.

Oh, and there’s my buddy Andrew Garfield again. I’m telling ya, this guy is gonna be huge before he ever appears onscreen as Peter Parker…

The Social Network opens in the U.S. and Canada on October 1, and in the U.K. on October 15.

Obviously the film is about facebook but I wish there was a way to advertise it that didn’t rely so much on facebook-related imagery. Based on the reaction the trailer got in theaters, I can already tell people are writing it off as “facebook: The Movie!”, and assuming there is nothing interesting to be explored.

What’s really interesting is how big a difference you get by switching out the music, as in this TV spot using the same scenes:

Also, it definitely sounds like I would expect an Aaron Sorkin movie about the the internet to sound, either way…

Yeah, I was only against the idea of this movie until I found out who wrote it. Since then I’ve been excited.
