‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: ‘Torchwood’ is ‘Doctor Who,’ and always will be

Were you worried that a half-American Torchwood was going to mean severing the series from its British roots… and more importantly, from its Doctor Who roots? Russell T. Davies says we needn’t worry (via Ology):

Davies told a panel at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour:

“Captain Jack is immortal, and what we are talking about is the world turns immortal… There’s an awful lot of story packed into that… There’s no break in continuity. There’s no fracturing. There’s fewer references to Doctor Who, because we are making a show out here, they are making a show in Britain.”

Davies continued, “It’s quite difficult to coordinate any sort of crossover. Neither would you want to, because both shows have a fantastic identity of their own. But for those fans who like that sort of stuff, it’s still absolutely faithful.”

Okay, so, no references to the Doctor or the TARDIS in the upcoming Torchwood, perhaps, but nothing to contradict Captain Jack’s life with the Doctor, either. I can live with that…
