things you need to know: Tyler Perry is the best-paid man in Hollywood in 2011

Tyler Perry as Madea

Hollywood should take note, but it won’t: The man who earned the most money doing Hollywood-type stuff between May 2010 and May 2011 isn’t Michael Bay or George Clooney or Matt Damon or Jerry Bruckheimer or anybody who works for Pixar or Leonardo DiCaprio or Steven Spielberg. According to Forbes’s annual list, it’s Tyler Perry.

Perry also beat out other entertainment types: musicians, authors, athletes, and fake TV doctors.

The secret of Perry’s success: He makes movies and TV shows for an underserved audience, which in turn thanks him by eating them up. It must be noted that Perry does not violate the most important rule of Hollywood: Making stuff that is shit is just easy as making stuff that isn’t shit, so why exert yourself? Perry just doesn’t make the same old shit again and again. He makes new, different shit. Which, clearly, lots and lots of people are happy to see.
So, Hollywood, why not try making some new shit once in a while?

The rest of the list:

2. Jerry Bruckheimer
3. Steven Spielberg
4. Elton John
5. Simon Cowell
6. James Patterson
7. Dr. Phil McGraw
8. Leonardo DiCaprio
9. Howard Stern
10. Tiger Woods
