Parker (trailer)

Oh, look: Jason Statham has a new movie. Or maybe it’s an old one. I can’t tell.

“It’s not revenge, it’s payback.” One of those words doesn’t mean what they think it means…

I guess that this is an attempt of the marketing department to link this version of Parker to the one used in the movie Payback (where they called him Porter and he was played by Mel Gibson). Since both are based on the Parker character from the novels by Donald E. Westlake this probably seemed like a cool idea to them.

See, it is cool. But it also shows a lack of imagination. I mean, what would be even cooler is if they’d taken it a step further: “It Ain’t Just Revenge… It’s Payback Too”

Right???

This trailer annoys the crap out of me. Richard Stark’s Parker is one of the coolest anti-heroes in all of crime fiction, and deserves better than to be reduced to yet another dull rent-a-thug played by Jason Statham in a January throw-away. Also, if they must cast a British actor as Parker, how about one who can actually act? Daniel Craig or Clive Owen would do much better in the role, in my opinion.

Nothing to say here – and I don’t think the film has anything to say either. If I want to watch “Jason Statham Beats People Up”, I’ll watch The Transporter, or The Italian Job remake.
