The Other Woman trailer: take this, Bechdel Test!

Oh, great: a movie with not one, not two, but three female protagonists! Oh, shit: literally the entire movie is going to be three women talking about a man.

I suppose this is a good way for a woman — in this case, first-time screenwriter Melissa Stack — to make a name for herself: craft a movie that seems designed to lob an enormous Fuck You at people who complain about the treatment of women in movies.

We need a word or phrase that means, about women in Hollywood, the same thing that “Uncle Tom” means…

I thought that after Bridesmaids the phrase was Mumolo/Wiig.

If this flies at all it’ll be on the acting. And with Cameron Diaz as the lead I’m not holding out much hope even for that.

Given Cameron Diaz’s role in this flick, I’m surprised they didn’t call it My Best Friend’s Husband.

With a title like _The Other Woman_, there’s not much point in getting one’s hopes up about a Bechdel passing grade. I’ll be looking out for your review.

Five decades ago, it would have been three women fighting over a man. Now it’s three women trying to get back at a man in a scenario that seems like a romcom version of the old office comedy Nine to Five. So…. not exactly this year’s answer to In a World but still.. progress?

It still presumes that women’s lives totally revolve around men. They don’t.
