I think the filmmaking community should have a douchebag jar. Every time someone pulls a stunt like this and gets called on it, the studio has to put, say, $500,000 into the jar. The money collected goes to fund independent films by women and people of color.

This isn’t any more immoral than the ridiculous pull quotes that have been appearing for years:

“…Exciting!…”–Rex Reed

It’s just immoral in a novel way. If enough people are upset by it, the studios will stop doing it to avoid a backlash. If most people applaud it, or shrug it off like they’ve shrugged off the pull quotes, then studios will keep on doing it. Or move on to something else that’s just as unethical.
