London photo: Southbank Christmas lights

southbankchristmas

I am dragging every last bit of festive enjoyment out of the holiday lights around town, because my absolute least favorite time of year is when all the Christmas decorations come down. The Santas can go, but they could at least leave the lights up until we start getting more hours of daylight than darkness. Is that too much to ask?

Seems fair enough to me; I think the pre-Christmas shopping season is so long that people are tired of Christmas by, well, now. We take down our holly branches on twelfth night.

That’s pretty much what I think, too, although I didn’t think about what might be behind it. When I’m driving around the neighborhood I look around for houses that still have their lights up, and it’s a little mood boost. Then gradually they start to look superfluous as the seasonal thing fades away. Hmm.
