Wow, I saw there was a list, but hadn’t viewed it yet. But my first thought had been that of course MaryAnn would be on that list.

You will always be one of my favorites film critics, gender need not be referenced. You are simply you, and that’s enough.

first thing i did after reading the article was to eagerly look for your name on the list. when i didn’t find it under Flick Filosopher, i said, oh, it must be under Johanson. then i was furious.

Grrrrrrr… I guess they were looking for a “donation.”

Maybe you were such a given that they overlooked you. You are one of the first critics recommended on IMDB’s “Critics” page. That’s how I found you anyways

Er, sure. That’s generally how that sort of thing works. :-/

I suppose it could be worse. After all, film critic Kathi Maio has two published books of film reviews to her credit and has been writing movie reviews for the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction since the early 1990s. Yet I did not see her name on that list.

Still… I can readily understand the urge to start growling at the people who made that list even though some of my favorite film critics who aren’t you managed to make it.

Edited to Add:

I can see through a brief bit of online research that critic Amy Nicholson has had reviews published in such alt periodicals as LA Weekly and The Dallas Observer. So why is she only connected with MTV News?

I guess it’s nice to see how much thought went into that list.

That’s it, though. They should have spend more time putting together a comprehensive list.

Er, given the implied sarcasm of the last sentence of my last post, I agree.

The list has now been updated to include Mary Ann. Someone must have had a word.

The post has been updated to add a lot of critics who were mentioned in the comments… with no indication that the post *has* been updated. So unless you read the comments — which everyone won’t — you’ll have no idea that the list was so poor to begin with.

“The past, he reflected, had not merely been altered, it had been actually destroyed. For how could you establish even the most obvious fact when there existed no record outside your own memory?”

Seems like they didn’t do a whole lot of research. I mean, they didn’t even contact the AWFJ. I think the writer or the researcher just had a bunch of journalists bookmarked on the browser and figured they knew everyone, so, well, why actually do any looking??
