Whoa.

Seems reasonable. I haven’t seen numbers on what sales boost a BAFTA can give a film, but clearly plenty of films do very well without one; so someone who wants to make Rich White Guy Whines About His Problems XII can still do so with no problems, it just won’t be in contention for the award.

I’m sort of curious how much of a backlash there will be. I imagine some people will promote their latest films by bragging that the movie will never, ever win a BAFTA.

I like to think we don’t have as much of that sort of crap in England but, hey, Brexit.

I’m curious – on the chat shows, when they introduce an actor, do they say, “BAFTA-winner (blank)!”

  • Or if they want to make a film that is lily-white onscreen, they can have diverse talent behind the camera and offer educational opportunities for young talent, and still be eligible for the BAFTAs.
